How to fix buffering: a troubleshooting order

Work through these steps from easiest to hardest and most buffering problems disappear.

Restart the app and the device. It sounds obvious, but it clears memory leaks and stale connections.

Restart your modem and router. Unplug both for 30 seconds, then power on the modem first.

Test speed on the TV itself, not your phone. Many TVs have a built-in network test, or you can open a speed-test site in the TV's browser.

Move to 5 GHz Wi-Fi or plug in Ethernet. Interference on 2.4 GHz is a top cause of buffering.

Check for other heavy traffic like game downloads, cloud backups or security cameras uploading video.

If only one service buffers, check its status page or social accounts. Outages happen, especially during big live events.
